Kids, Incorporated on the national stage! - May 6, 2021

Welcome back to Catching Up With Kids, Incorporated! We are happy you are here, and we are excited to start diving into more of the history and tradition behind our organization! Kids, Inc. has been a staple in the Amarillo community for over 75 years and over those years, we have built a vast collection of fun memories and we are excited to share more of those with you!

This week, we want to take a look at some of the national recognition that Kids, Incorporated has received in the past. Way back in 1946, just fifteen months after our founding, Kids, Inc. started gaining attention on a worldwide scale. On April 14, 1946, a staff writer with the Associated Press picked up our story and published a nationwide article about the good work being done here in Amarillo.

At this time, the total population of Amarillo was only around fifty thousand people. This article was a big deal! Residents soon realized the importance of the Associated Press article because it was published in hundreds of different newspapers across the country and put the small Panhandle community in the spotlight. Word spread so wide that President John F. Kennedy sent a telegram to Kids, Incorporated to congratulate the sponsors and members on all the work they were doing! Kids, Incorporated not only worked to promote the idea of youth involvement during those early years, but our earliest members and leaders worked to promote the growth of our community. We will see you back here next week when we begin to take a closer look at the Kids, Incorporated leadership over the years!
