Kids, Inc. Leadership: Bill Epps - May 20, 2021

Welcome back to Catching Up With Kids, Incorporated! Kids, Inc. has been a staple in the Amarillo community for over 75 years and over those years, we have built a vast collection of fun memories and we are excited to share more of those with you!

Last week, we began giving you a look into the past leadership of our organization and some of the challenges faced during our early years. We have previously discussed the founding of Kids, Inc. (CLICK HERE) and Ralph Dykeman (CLICK HERE). By May 20, 1957 (64 years ago today!) Bill Epps had taken over as our organization’s assistant director. In 1959, he stepped into the role left vacant by Dykeman.

Epps served as Kids, Incorporated’s director for three years and during his time, he led the organization through a period of significant growth. At the start of his term, Kids, Inc. participants totaled 2,902. By 1961, this number had increased to 4,655. Upon his resignation from Kids, Incorporated, Epps stated “It has been an enjoyable three years. The opportunity that I have is more lucrative; that’s the only reason I’m leaving. I hate to make the change. I still plan to help Kids, Inc. in any way I can, even though I’m not on the payroll”.
