Kids, Inc. Leadership: Gary Abramson - June 10, 2021

Happy Thursday! Kids, Inc. has been a staple in the Amarillo community for over 75 years and over those years, we have built a vast collection of fun memories and we are excited to share more of those with you!

Over the last few weeks, we have been giving you a look into the past leadership of our organization and some fun facts from our early years. We have previously discussed the founding of Kids, Inc., and our earliest leaders. CLICK HERE to find those posts. Jim Brock returned to AISD in 1983. Gary Abramson, a long-time staple in the Amarillo sports community, took over as Kids, Incorporated’s third full-time executive director.

Abramson had years of experience with the sport of Volleyball. He played at the collegiate level and would go on to work with the U.S. National teams and USVBA before his time with Kids, Inc. Because of his prior experience, Abramson helped put Volleyball on the map in Amarillo. His experience helped create and grow the youth Volleyball experience for local kids. During this time, Basketball was the dominant sport for young ladies in area schools. As Kids, Incorporated’s Volleyball program grew, so did interest in the sport. The first local club programs can be traced back to this period and Abramson played a major role in training many young athletes in the Amarillo area.
