the applause principle - July 1, 2021

Hello and Happy July! We are happy you are here for another Catching Up With Kids, Incorporated. Just a reminder, we are registering RIGHT NOW for our fall sports, including Tackle Football, Flag Football, Outdoor Soccer, Volleyball, and Cheerleading. Get your kiddo signed up today because games begin in September!

We have previously told you about the founding of Kids, Inc. and the individuals responsible for building this organization during the early years. Cal Farley was one of the major driving forces and he brought a lot of new ideas to Kids, Inc. One example was what he called the “applause principle”. With this, Farley used his connections with the local media to publish Kids, Incorporated game results in the newspaper.

Within the first year of Kids, Incorporated sports, the sports section of area papers were filled with Kids, Inc. game scores and statistics. These seemingly insignificant write-ups were equal to the write-ups provided for professional sports. Local children and families looked forward to reading the paper after game day and searching for their team or their own names. This “applause principle” worked to provide many kiddos with immense pride and motivation.
