Kids, Inc. Goes Digital - July 8, 2021

Welcome back to Catching Up With Kids, Incorporated! If you have registered for one of our many sports in recent years, you are probably familiar with both our website and our online sport management system. Our registration process was not always this technologically advanced. Back in 1995, Kids, Inc. was completing all paperwork by hand! This was not uncommon for the time, as the Internet was still relatively new, but we have had some major changes since then.

Around this time, players would sign up for teams and pay their fees to coaches on the field. Coaches would then hand-deliver these registration forms to our office. Schedules were manually built and printed in our office to be picked up by coaches and delivered to players and parents. Once a week, a staff member would drive next week’s schedule to each participating school, a very time-consuming process.

The need for a change was becoming clearer and clearer. The first major step towards being a more tech-savvy organization was acquiring an email address for the one computer in the office. This was a giant step and allowed for messages to be sent quickly and for questions to be answered faster than ever before. Next came a website and eventually our very own sports management software, which we still use today. These advancements helped grow the operational side of Kids, Inc. and by 2000, we were set up to take online registrations. By 2003, payments were being accepted electronically.

Today, 85 to 90 percent of our players register online. This process saves time and money for everyone involved. While most of our registration takes place online, we have not completely done away with paper registration forms. For each season, registration forms are always available at the front counter of our office.
