Kids, Inc. and Glenwood Elementary - August 19, 2021
Hello and welcome back to Catching Up With Kids, Incorporated! Just a reminder, teams are forming now for Tackle Football, Flag Football, Outdoor Soccer, Volleyball, and Cheerleading. There is still time to register, but seasons are starting soon so don’t wait! We are also still looking for coaches for many of our teams. If you are interested, give us a call at 806-376-5936. Games begin September 10 and 11.
You may have heard the story of how Kids, Incorporated came to be, but did you know our origin can be traced back to a local elementary school that is still open today? The very first recruiting meeting for our organization took place at Glenwood Elementary in late October of 1944. Bus Dugger introduced the idea of an after-school sports program based at the Maverick Club that would help keep Glenwood Elementary boys busy after school and out of trouble. The plan was to begin at Glenwood then branch out to other local schools across the city.
Later that year, the Glenwood PTA invited Mr. Dugger back to the school and unanimously agreed to give Kids, Incorporated a chance. The rest is history. Today, Kids, Incorporated has branched out far beyond Glenwood Elementary. We now serve kids from over 100 schools in the Amarillo/Canyon area and across the Texas Panhandle. It is exciting to see how much our organization has grown over the past 75+ years!
