Emilee Hilbish - River Road & UTA

Why Honored: Hilbish became the first wheelchair athlete from Amarillo to ink a Division I athletic scholarship last April, signing to play wheelchair basketball for the University of Texas-Arlington.

A month later in May, the River Road graduate made more history at the UIL Class 3A state track and field meet. Hilbish put her name in the Texas Panhandle record books, becoming the first wheel chair athlete to win gold in the 100 and 400 meter dash at Mike A. Myers Stadium in Amarillo.

Hilbish finished with a time of 1:22.56 in the 400 meter, and clocked a 21.14 seconds in the 100 meter.

Quotable: "It feels awesome. Growing up I never thought I'd accomplish what I did. I never thought I'd be a college athlete. And to say to you I won two gold medals is awesome. Now I just want to continue to help younger disabled athletes get involved and help promote that."
