How It
All Started
In October of 1944,
Cal Farley, the founder of Kids, Incorporated, asked his friend, C.C.
"Bus" Dugger to make a presentation to the PTA at Glenwood Elementary
School. The purpose of this presentation was to ask permission
from the Glenwood parents and faculty to establish an organized sports
program for boys in southeast Amarillo.
In December of 1944,
the Glenwood PTA approved the proposal, and on the first Monday in
January of 1945, Mr. Dugger picked up 11 boys from Glenwood Elementary
School, and took them to the Maverick Club to play basketball with Mr.
Ralph Dykeman's boys.
That's exactly how
Kids, Incorporated began!
