Why Honored: Simpson spent close to 40 years as a head coach, with some memorable years spent at Canyon and Amarillo High. In 1964, Simpson and his Canyon team won a State Championship, and in 1986, Simpson led the Sandies to a State Championship title of their own.
Simpson retired with an overall record of 697-372, which remains in the top 50 winningest coaches in the state of Texas.
