Bill Spann was inducted into the PSHOF on the 50th anniversary of the last state championship team at Dumas.

Bill Spann played football for Amarillo High before joining the Army in 1946. While stationed in Japan, he played center on a team that won the All-Pacific championship.

After his two-year military stint, Spann attended Oklahoma A&M (now Oklahoma State) on a football scholarship.

After he graduated and got married in 1949, Spann launched his coaching career at Walters and Wewoka, Oklahoma high schools. He later moved to Dumas and was the Demons’ line coach. A year later, he became head coach and the Demons repeated as state champs, winning 13 of 14 games. Spann retired from Dumas once the 1975 season ended. During his 14 years, Dumas had seven district titles. Following Dumas, Spann coached at Burleson and Redwater.

His overall coaching record was 175-65.

Bill Spann died of cancer in 1991, at age 63.
