BOB SCHNEIDER - INDUCTEE #141

Did you know that Bob Schneider met his future wife, Barbara McCurley, while he was coaching at McLean? She became his statistician for 38 years. "The perfect coach's wife," Schneider said. The Schneider's have three children: Brandon, Brett, and Brooke. All played basketball and both sons are involved in coaching.

Bob Schneider accepted his first coaching job as a 21-year-old in his hometown of Darrouzett. He continued to coach for 43 years with stints at McLean, Clayton, Canyon, Texas Woman’s College, and West Texas A&M.

Schneider established winning traditions at Canyon High School and WT, with his Canyon girls winning five state titles and his Lady Buffs taking nine Lone Star Conference championships. In 21 seasons at “The Box,” Schneider’s Lady Buffs won 90 percent of their games. His Lady Buffs won nine Lone Star Conference championships, reached the postseason playoffs 12 times, and advanced to the Elite Eight twice.

Schneider was named the Division II national coach of the year in 1996-1997.

He retired in 2006 with a 585-163 record in 25 seasons at WT. Overall, Coach Schneider had 1,045 wins.
