Why Honored: Penigar's second half performance at the Class 2A UIL State Championship game has been described as the most dominant finals performance by any player in Texas Panhandle history. Clarendon went into the second half trailing 24-16, but this was no issue for Penigar. He would go on to score 33 of his game-high 41 points in this half.
Penigar was instrumental to the Broncos second straight Class 2A state title win as they would go on to defeat Lipan 65-51. His performance was more than enough to earn MVP honors.
