Brenda Kitten was the first representative from Hereford to be inducted into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame.

Brenda Kitten’s 1992 team was the first Hereford High School volleyball team to reach the state tournament. Her 1996 team was the first to win state. After two rough seasons, Kitten guided the Lady Whitefaces to five state championships, three other state tournament appearances, 13 district titles, and a 618-234 record in 24 years. Kitten’s ’85 and ’86 teams had rough debuts, but by 1992, her Lady Whitefaces won regional and qualified for the state tournament. The next year they won state.

After a 2008 state title, Kitten stepped down and became assistant principal at the junior high. She kept her position as the Hereford ISD’s girls athletic director, a post she had since 1993.

Kitten was named the Texas Sportswriters Association Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2008.
