C.C. "BUS" DUGGER - INDUCTEE #137

hall of fame fast fact:

So where did Bus Dugger get that nickname? He was born in Foss, Oklahoma, the youngest of three boys. When he was 3 months old, his family called him "Buster." But after he got to college, he cut it down to "Bus."

C.C. "Bus" Dugger

Bus Dugger moved to Amarillo in the early 1940s; he heard Cal Farley on the radio and soon became acquainted with the Boys Ranch founder. Farley told Dugger he wanted him to start a sports program in Amarillo. Glenwood Elementary endorsed the idea and Dugger picked up 11 boys and took them to the Maverick Club to teach them basketball. That was the beginning of Kids, Incorporated.

Dugger earned a bachelor’s and master’s degree at West Texas State Teachers College. In 1966, he was reunited with Farley as a teacher and junior high football coach at Boys Ranch. He served as director of Panhandle Science Fair for years and retired in 1982 as the elementary school principal at Boys Ranch.

Dugger organized and coached sports, but he also officiated basketball games for 33 years. Dugger was installed in the first class of the Kids, Inc. Hall of Fame. A wing in the Kids, Inc. building and the
Amarillo Sportsplex are both named after
 Bus and Freda Dugger.

Bus and Freda were married for 60 years.
