Clyde Flowers

200-pound Clyde Flowers anchored TCU’s offensive line for three seasons, served as captain, helped with coaching, and led the team to a conference championship and a major bowl appearance.

After graduating from Perryton in 1940 as a four-year letterman, Flowers played on TCU’s freshman team. Flowers was a NEA All-American and named all-SWC; he played in all-star games after his junior and senior seasons. Flowers played every down – all 600 minutes – and was honored with the Grassy Henton Award as the team’s unsung hero.

Flowers earned all-Southwest Conference honors and won the Dan D. Rogers Award as the team’s most valuable player. He achieved a rarity after his junior season, playing in the East-West Shrine game. Flowers played in the College All-Star game against the Green Bay Packers at Chicago in 1945.

He was inducted into the TCU Hall of Fame in 1977.
