Dan Lynch, son to legendary Amarillo High School football coach Howard Lynch, coached age-group girls basketball teams for 20 years.

Lynch did more to provide and create sports opportunities for youth, especially girls, in Amarillo than anybody else. He secured three national AAU girls basketball championship tournaments in Amarillo and served two six-year terms as a Kids, Inc. board member, including a stretch as president.

Dan Lynch was heavily involved in coaching AAU girls basketball teams. He helped run the West Texas AAU national qualifying tournaments each summer. In 1992, one of the tournaments hosted 86 teams and 1,000 athletes.

He was a volunteer as board president of the Southwest Amarillo Basketball Association and an official for high school volleyball games for 12 years.

In 1995, Dan Lynch died, later the same year he was named the Amarillo Globe-News Man of the Year.
