Jason Conway - Tascosa Baseball

Why Honored: Prior to the 2014 baseball season, Conway suffered a life-threatening injury. In October 2013, Conway was pitching at a college showcase at Texas Tech, when a batted ball hit his head, striking him in the right temple and knocking him down. It fractured a bone, causing internal bleeding and requiring surgery. Conway returned to practicing with Tascosa the next month, wearing a batting helmet for all drills. Not only did he eventually pitch again for the Rebels, he flourished, serving as a key cog to arguably the best high school pitching staff in the area. Conway finished the season with an 8-3 record, helping the Rebels to one of their best seasons as they reached the Class 5A regional quarterfinals.

Quotable: "I was in the hospital whenever Tascosa coach Jason Patrick came in and checked on me, one of the first things I said to him was I wanted to play that year. I wanted to get back and play the game I love again. I didn't know if I was going to come back and do as well. I did but I got a lot of support from my family, friends, and teammates."
