Why Honored: Ayers was an offensive lineman in the NFL from 1977 through 1987 and appeared in two Super Bowls with the San Francisco 49ers. In 1982, Ayers was a key component in the legendary play immortalized as "The Catch" in the NFC Playoffs versus the Dallas Cowboys.
The two-time Super Bowl Champion went on to be selected First-Team All-Pro in 1984 and Second-Team All-Pro in 1985.
