Dr. Bob Carter - Amarillo College
Why Honored: R.P. Bob Carter, who made his way to the Panhandle in 1936 from New Jersey, founded Amarillo College’s physical education and athletic department.
Over a span of 29 years, track stars, basketball, golf, and tennis players found themselves honing their skills under Carter’s tutelage.
From 1946 to 1965, Carter had only four losing seasons. He amassed a 289-175 record in basketball. He took his teams to five regional meets.
While at AC, Carter helped found the National Junior College Athletic Association. He was regional director of the NJCAA for 19 years.
