Heather Murrell - Spearman

Why Honored: Murrell became the first high school track athlete in Panhandle history to win four state titles in the same four individual events. The sweep of the Class 2A 400 meters came from 1986-89.

Her first state title as a freshman, despite qualifying seventh out of eight, came near midnight in the weather-delayed state meet in 58.1 seconds. For the next three years, she dominated the event, winning all three times in the mid-55 seconds. Murrell’s 55.4 best is the second-fastest time by a girl in area history.

Murrell continued her career at Southern Methodist University.
