Why Honored: Kjerstad continued a solid tradition of brothers passing through the Randall program as he became the latest family member to leave his impression with the Raiders. In his third and final year with the Randall varsity, Kjerstad won or shared District 3-5A MVP honors for the second straight season, batting .531 with three home runs and 33 RBIs to help lead Randall to the region semifinals.

Kjerstad was drafted in the 36th round by the Seattle Mariners, but he chose to honor his commitment to play for the University of Arkansas, where he’d signed the previous fall. He looks to be following in the footsteps of older brother Dex, who also was drafted by a pro organization and played Division I college baseball.

Quotable: “We were just trying to extend our season as long as we could because it would be the last shot for us since we had 10 seniors. Honestly, looking back a little bit after finishing things out, I was kind of impressed with myself. I didn’t think I’d have the kind of season I did.”
