Jack Wilson and Dumas battled district rival Hereford, another state power, annually in perhaps the area’s top rivalry. The two programs combined for 10 state championship and 17 state tournament appearances. For 15 years in a row, one of them went to the state tournament.

In his first and only head high school volleyball coaching position, Jack Wilson led Dumas to unprecedented heights. Over 18 years, Wilson guided the Lady Demons to five Class 4A state championships.

A Dumas native, Wilson was promoted to the job from the junior high in 1988 and took the Lady Demons to three consecutive titles. He added state titles in 1998 and 2006.

In his 24 years upon his retirement in 2012, Wilson’s teams compiled a record of 713-211. In addition to the five state titles, Dumas made nine state tournament appearances and 15 times his teams advanced to the regional tournament.
