Johnny Allen - Carver
Why Honored: Few coaches, if any, in the Texas Panhandle put their stamp on a school like Johnny Allen did at Carver. He was there for 19 years: when it opened and when it closed.
Allen came to Carver when the all-black school opened in 1948. He was there when desegregation closed its doors in 1967. He guided the Dragons to three state titles in a row in track. In his fourth year at Carver, Allen guided the Dragons to their only football state title.
He pushed his athletes through a relentless work ethic and motivated them to be better than they thought they could be.
