An original member of the Maverick Boys Club when it opened in 1936 and a board member for 28 years, Kile said the club "probably saved me." He overcame a case of polio in the fifth grade and wound up as the state AAU diving champion.

James Kile

James Kile taught and coached at Tascosa for 35 years. He officiated football and basketball for 40 years.

At Tascosa, Kile coached the soccer team to five district titles and the wrestling team to two state titles before the sport was sanctioned by the UIL.

Kile was best known as a football and basketball official. He worked for the Lone Star and Oklahoma conferences, the NAIA in football, and the Missouri Valley in basketball. He also served as state president of officials for both football and basketball. He served as overall commissioner and was in charge of officials. Kile worked the Western Junior College tournament in Amarillo in the late 1960s.

He was instrumental in two sports rule changes.
