Do you know what Jim Wilcoxson enjoys more than playing golf? Wilcoxson and his wife, Nicki, really get a kick out of watching their two grandkids play ball. Perhaps he'll launch a coaching comeback.

At Childress High, Jim Wilcoxson was all-state in basketball, averaging more than 20 points a game. He won the Class 2A golf title, earning him a golf scholarship to Texas Tech where he became the No. 2 player.

For 20 years, golf was Wilcoxson’s vocation; he worked at Southwest Golf Course until he was named the assistant professional at Amarillo Country Club, and eventually ACC’s golf superintendent.

Wilcoxson coached his daughters’ youth basketball teams. From 1982-1984, he was a volunteer basketball coach at Amarillo College. In 1985, he began his high school coaching career at Booker. He later moved to Tascosa and Randall. In his 15 years as Randall’s coach, his teams won 348 games and two state championships. Two of his teams won state titles.

In 20 years, his teams had more than 500 wins and reached the playoffs 15 times before he retired after the 2003-2004 season.
