James Mays - Hereford & Texas Tech
Why Honored: While at Hereford, Mays was the UIL Class 4A State Champion in the 880-meters. Mays then continued his career at Texas Tech.
Mays was one of the top 800 meter runners in the country. Mays finished fourth in the 1980 and 1981 NCAA Outdoor competition and placed third in the 1981 NCAA Indoor competition. He became a two-time Southwest Conference Champion and Texas Tech's first three-time All-American in the 800.
Mays went on to continue his career on the professional level.
