Lawrence McCutcheon's son, Daylon McCutcheon, is a starter in the defensive secondary for the Cleveland Browns. His wife, the former Mina Cooper, was the coach of Plainview's fledgling girls' basketball team the year before Plainview High joined UIL play in 1978-1979.

After full integration in 1967, the 6-2, 215 pound linebacker played one year at Plainview High School. McCutcheon rushed for 589 yards that 7-3 season.

He attended Colorado State where he had 2,917 yards in three seasons and set more than 20 records for the collegiate Rams. He was a third-round draft choice of the Los Angeles Rams in 1972 and became the club’s all-time rushing leader, with 6,186 yards from 1972-1979. McCutcheon finished his 10-year pro career with 6,578 yards on 1,521 carries and 26 touchdowns. Each year from 1973-1977, he was named to the Pro Bowl as one of the NFL’s top rushers. He was named second team All-Pro in 1974, All-NFC in 1977, and second team All-NFC in 1973, 1975, and 1976.

After being slowed by a knee injury, McCutcheon later played for Denver, Buffalo, and Seattle, ending his career after the 1981 season.

Prior to his present duties, he was director of scouting for the Rams; he worked for the club for over 30 years.
