Leslie briggs - soccer athlete of the year 2012
Leslie Briggs - West Texas A&M University
Why Honored: Briggs got the chance to play at WT as a fifth year senior, due to her missing her freshman season with mononucleosis. That season, she helped lead the Lady Buffs to the 2012 Lone Star Conference Championship, scoring the game-winning goal in double overtime.
She was named the tournaments MVP, second team All-America by the National Soccer Coaches Association of All-America, the 2012 Daktronics NCAA Division II Women's Soccer All-America Team, and the Daktronics South Central Region Player of the Year.
Quotable: "Being from Amarillo, born and raised here, it's pretty exciting to get that. I didn't get this by myself. A lot of players on my team actually helped me out. I had my team, and my coaches, and my family to all help me."
