Marsha Sharp has 30 to 40 ex-players coaching on the high school level. She has several who are college assistants and a few of her former players and former Texas Tech assistants are college head coaches, including Krista Kirkland Gerlich at West Texas A&M, Candi White at Missouri-Kansas City, Tammy Spangler-Davis at Western Texas, and Linden Weese at Eastern New Mexico. Ex-assistant Roger Reding is on the staff of the WNBA's Chicago Sky.

Marsha Sharp

Marsha Sharp of Tulia played on the Wayland Baptist Queen Bees junior varsity team, but gave up playing to be an assistant coach her junior year.

Sharp went onto coach high school basketball at Lockney for six years, with a 126-63 record. She then coached a year as Tech’s assistant before becoming head coach for 24 years. In 1993, Sharp led the Lady Raiders to Tech’s first team national championship. Overall, she had a 572-189 career record, a 97 percent player graduation rate, 18 NCAA tournament appearances, and five Southwest Conference titles. Sharp was the SWC Coach of the Year five times, the Big 12 Coach of the Year twice, and the president of Women’s Basketball Coaches Association.

When Sharp first started coaching at Tech, there were 200 people in the stands. Before she retired in 2006, she drew a crowd of 11,935.

Sharp became Tech’s associate athletic director for special projects in 2006.
