Why Honored: Nelson led the Pampa Harvesters all the way to an appearance at the semifinals round of play in the 1982 5A state tournament. This was their first appearance at the state level since 1959, and Nelson was a key component in their success.
Nelson went on to continue his career at Texas Tech.
