So which sport does Pat Jackson like the best? "I've never been able to make up my mind," she answered. "I've probably shot myself in the foot more on a national level by being involved two rather than concentrating on one." Perhaps that shot missed her foot.

Patricia L. "Pat" Jackson

Pat Jackson was successful on a national level in two sports, winning numerous national titles in both golf and tennis.

Jackson was the first female from Amarillo to win a berth in the UIL state tennis tournament in 1945. Jackson achieved a golf handicap of 2 and won the Amarillo city championship in 1946 at the age of 18. Jackson won 11 titles in major tournaments and seven different titles in the Amarillo Open and Tri-State Open, including the Tri-State women’s singles title in 1949.

She attended Amarillo College for two years and captured the Texas Junior College Championships in 1949. She graduated from the University of Arizona after winning the 1950 NCAA doubles championship with Jean Doyle. She won the Corpus Christi championship in 1952 and the Texas state public links championship in 1953.

She was the silver medal winner in the 2007 National Senior Olympics women’s golf championships in Louisville, Kentucky.
