RAY BACA - TRACK AND FIELD COACH OF THE YEAR 2014, 2019, 2023

Ray Baca - Canyon

Why Honored: In his fourth year at Canyon, Baca saw the potential in his veterans he had been coaching since they were freshman. They did not disappoint.

Baca and the Lady Eagles walked away with the District 3-4A team championship, scoring 194.5 points.

At the area meet, Canyon scored 148 points, winning the team title by an astounding 47 points. The Lady Eagles went on to share the Region I-4A total with Denton Guyer. Baca and his team placed third at the state meet, with 39 points.

In 2019, Baca guided the Lady Eagles to the 4A state championship with 86 points, one of the highest point totals in 4A history. Before reaching the final meet, Baca and his team won the regional meet with 134 points, more than the second and third place teams combined.

In Austin, Baca and his team walked away with five state championship titles, a runner-up, a third place finish, a fourth place finish, and a fifth place finish.

2023 was another great year for Baca and the Lady Eagles. He led his team to their second consecutive Class 4A State Championship, finishing with an astounding 80 points. Canyon showed balance with heavy scoring in the distance and middle distance events, 1600 relay, 300 hurdles, pole vault, and discus. Baca and his team were the only area team to win a state title.
