Why Honored: Schmucker and his Pantherettes reached the Class 2A state title game, only to lose out on the championship.
They responded by earning their way to the state tournament a second time. This time, defeating Martin's Mill 50-43, giving Schmucker his first state championship and Panhandle's first state title in a quarter century.
Quotable: "I think for us it was not being satisfied with just being down there. Last year I feel they just wanted to finish the job. The main thing was to show some improvement along the way. I think being down there in the big environment and representing our region along with the other schools in the area was a big deal."
