Tex Nolan spent 13 years as athletic director for the Amarillo Independent School District. AISD teams won 16 state championships during Nolan’s tenure.

He secured the second FieldTurf field in the nation and oversaw the renovation of Dick Bivins Stadium. Under Nolan, AISD started a softball program in 1998-99. After the new turf was installed in 1997, the stadium was able to schedule eight or nine extra football playoff games a year.

After putting retirement off for a year due to UIL realignment, Nolan retired in 2009. He was a team player and often gave credit to other people.

Before joining the AISD, Nolan served as the principal at Highland Park and coached a variety of sports at Pampa, Sunray, and Dalhart.

He earned his bachelor’s degree at Panhandle (Oklahoma) State and his master’s degree at Louisiana-Monroe, now Northeast Louisiana.

Nolan was inducted into the Texas High School Athletic Director Hall of Honor in 2006.
