TIM COCHRAN - TENNIS COACH OF THE YEAR 2005

Tim Cochran - Dumas

Why Honored: Last spring, Dumas did not advance any players to the regionals. But when the team tennis season rolled around in the fall, Cochran's squad won the District 3-4A championship for the first time in five years and advanced to the regional semifinals.

Dumas had a team of three seniors and seven sophomores who grew up very quickly and every player was named all-district in team tennis.

Dumas beat Arlington Seguin, 10-5, in the regional quarterfinals before falling to El Paso Chapin, 10-1, in the regional semifinals.

Quotable: "Coming out of last spring, we knew our young kids just had a taste of it, so we hoped they'd take a step forward in the fall and they did. We beat Pampa to get off to a good start. Then we lost ot Palo Duro at Palo Duro. But that was a 10-9 score so the little ones knew they were so close that they could beat them and we didn't lose another match until regionals. This was a great season and a great bunch of kids. They played with a lot of heart and determination."
