Why Honored: Shields helped lead the Clarendon Broncos to one of their most successful seasons. During the 1972 season, after coming back from a 5-5 record the last year, the Broncos fought their way to a 13-2 record.
Shields led the Broncos all the way to the state championship game, falling just short of the title, losing 14-10 to Schulenburg.
