WARREN HASSE - INDUCTEE #58

hall of fame fast fact:

Hasse's pet peeve: When he was broadcasting games, there were usually only two commercials per quarter. "There's no continuity today," he said. "You can't envision the ball game because you're always interrupted with commercials."

Warren Hasse

Pampa’s Warren Hasse, known as the “Voice of the Buffalos,” served in World War II as a bombardier/navigator, then as an instructor in San Angelo.

Following his Military service, Hasse began his 45-year career behind the microphone. Hasse started working for both the newspaper and radio station in 1949 after his long-time interest in broadcasting. By Hasse’s rough estimate, he called between 1,200-1,500 football games, more than 1,000 basketball games, not to mention baseball, golf, and track.

He called junior varsity, high school, state championships, and college games primarily in Pampa and Canyon. Hasse also called the top two classes of Texas state championship football games for 28 years, starting in the early 1960s.

Hasse broadcasted games for KAMQ, KGNC, and later bought out KPDN, owning the station until 1981.

Hasse was inducted into WT’s Hall of Champions in 1993.
