Zach Weatherly - Tascosa

Why Honored: Weatherly won gold medals in the Class 5A shot put and discus competitions at the 2012 Texas High State Track and Field Meet. He dominated the discus competition, winning by 18 feet and 4 inches.

Earlier in the season, Weatherly won gold in the shot and discus at the Region I-5A meet. With that, he became the first AHS athlete to win in the shot and discus at both regional and state.

Quotable: "It was an awesome experience. Like I said before, it was a dream come true. I will never forget the trip down to Austin. I ate like I was king. I will always remember my first throw at state. After I was done throwing, the only thing I heard was my dad screaming. This honor is awesome. I said the state meet was the icing on the cake of my career. I guess you could call this honor the sprinkles on it."
