Joe Lombard & Tate Lombard
Why Honored: For the second time in three years, both Lombard's won state championships, as Joe won his third straight at Canyon and Tate won his second in Class 3A at Wall. While Joe's accomplishments are very well documented, Tate has shown that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Tate, a Canyon graduate, led Wall to a 32-4 record as his team showed the same type of trademark stifling defense that his father's have in winning 12 state titles at Canyon. Wall's scored resembled those of football games, as the Lady Hawks didn't allow 40 to a team in the postseason until a 60-40 win over San Antonio Cole in the state semifinals. In the state title game, Wall survived a 24-21 defensive battle with Brock.
Quotable: "It's a huge thrill to have for your son to accomplish something like this. I'm so happy for him because of what he's done with the program at Wall. I'm excited for me as well."
- Joe Lombard
"I know this award and how huge it is in the Texas Panhandle and it's something to keep track of. To be mentioned like that is something that I'm not sure I'm deserving of but I'll enjoy accepting it."
