Kenbriel Hearn - Memphis Football

Why Honored: Hearn was slated to be a major contributor to Memphis in football and basketball entering his senior year, but suffered major health ordeals last summer that not only threatened his athletic career, but his life. After it was discovered he had a mass on his brain, Hearn suffered two strokes, went through surgery, fell into a coma for three weeks, was unable to walk and talk, and dropped from his normal weight of 160 pounds to 112 pounds. After going through physical therapy, Hearn returned to the football team and suited up for a game against Stratford on Nov. 1. With Stratford leading 35-0, coaches for the two schools agreed to let Hearn enter the game at running back and carry the ball untouched for 48 yards for a touchdown.

Quotable: "It opens your eyes a bit when you're not walking or talking. When you've been through what I've been through, every day is a good day."
