Why Honored: In Canyon, the Hampton name is synonymous with basketball. Johnny Hampton currently serves as assistant coach to the legendary Lady Eagles basketball team. As a coach, he has claimed multiple state championship titles – two during his time at Nazareth prior to coming to Canyon and over 10 with the Lady Eagles. Back in his high school days, Johnny was a part of a state championship team for Dimmitt high school.
His wife, Sharon, holds four state championship titles to her name, earned during her years at Nazareth high school.
Johnny and Sharon have three daughters, Jordan, Brittany, and Nicole, and each of them have paved their own path to success in the basketball world. Brittney and Nicole each can claim two state championships earned with the Lady Eagles, while Jordan was a part of three championship teams.
All three sisters found themselves playing at the collegiate level at Lubbock Christian University. While there, they played in a combined 309 games with a winning record of 240 games that featured a Hampton sister. They each attribute their talents and success to their parents.
The Hampton family combined holds over 25 Texas state championship titles.
