How often is Jim Bond asked if his real name is James Bond (alias Agent 007)? "People ask me that all the time," he said, "but I'm from Texas and I was named Jimmy. My older brothers are Billy Joe and Marvin. But I don't mind. It helps them remember my name."

Jim Bond of Pampa set the career scoring record at 1,486 points in 77 games, an average of 19.3 points a game. The Harvesters only lost twice in Bond’s three years and won two Class 4A state titles.

The 6-5, 180 pound played center in the 1954 All-American high school game and received 50 scholarship offers. Bond continued to College of the Nazarene in California, where he played for four years.

Bond was a special guest of the Phillips Petroleum Company at the 1956 Olympics.

After college, he was drafted by the NBA Minneapolis Lakers but decided to go into ministry; he attended Nazarene Theological Seminary in Kansas City, then began pastoring for the Church of the Nazarene for 17 years in Kansas, Wyoming, Idaho, Brazil, Oklahoma, and Colorado.

Bond later became president of Point Loma University in San Diego, then became Dr. Bond after earning three honorary doctoral degrees.

In 1977, he was elected as one of the six general superintendents responsible for the leadership of the global church until he retired in 2005.
