John Farquhar still plays as much golf as possible. "I still love to play," said Farquhar. "and I've shot my age three times."

Son of Ross Rogers’ 1951 golf pro, John Farquhar was the class 2A state medalist at Amarillo High his senior year before his college golfing career at Texas Tech.

The Red Raiders won three conference golf championships, two in the Border Conference and one in the Southwest Conference, which was Tech’s first SWC championship in any sport.

After college, Farquhar captured a handful of men’s city titles and was a three-time winner of the annual Top O’ Texas Tournament at Pampa Country Club. Farquhar played in the Masters tournament four times, was in 13 U.S. Amateur Championships and finished in the top 10 five times. He was a low amateur in the 1964 U.S. Open with a 72-hole score of 297. Farquhar won eight Budweiser Partnerships with six different partners.

His best round of golf in tournament competition was an eight-under 64 in Plainview.
