lynlee spinhirne - special achievement award winner 2023

Lynlee Spinhirne - Vega Swimming

Why Honored: Spinhirne made local history at the first ever Class 4A state swim meet in 2023. As the first and only (so far) swimmer from Vega to earn a spot at the state meet, Spinhirne entered the finals in the 100-yard backstroke as the No. 3 seed. With a personal best time of 58.80 seconds, she emerged with the gold medal, defeating the runner-up swimmer by over a second.

This was the first time an area girls swimmer brought home a state title since 1981 and only the third time it has happened overall. Spinhirne also qualified for the state meet in the 100 butterfly and finished sixth.
