Mackie Land - track athlete of the year 2022

Mackie Land - Panhandle High

Why Honored: Land completely dominated during her senior season and really showed out during the UIL state meet. In her first event, the 400 meter run, Land clocked a time of 54.21 to take the gold for the third time in a row. If not for the COVID-19 pandemic and cancellation of the season in 2020, Land likely would have been a four-time champion in this event.

Land was not done yet. Less than an hour after winning the gold, she competed in the 200 meter run, recording a personal best time of 23.75 for yet another first place finish. Land wrapped up her successful career by running in the 1600 meter relay alongside Avery Sides, Sydney Adee, and her sister, Leah Land. The team recorded a time of 3:55.79, breaking their own Class 2A meet record set last year and taking home yet another gold medal.
