The second woman inducted into the Panhandle Sports Hall of Fame, Pat Tate Truelove, gained early stardom as a ball handler and outside shooter at Dimmitt High School before being among the first five players ever to earn AAU All-American honors for the Wayland Flying Queens.

Tate was a forward who shot from long range and was a good free throw shooter. Tate played in the World Games in Chile in 1951 and was selected to the United States National AAU All-Star Team in 1952. She was one of 10 members of that team who went on a 10-week tour playing in Ecuador, Peru, Chile, Argentina, Paraguay, Uruguay, and Bolivia. Tate received the outstanding player award from Argentina’s famed first lady, Eva Peron, in Buenos Aires.

She went on to play for other noted AAU teams: the Georgia Peaches, Nashville Business College, and Dowell’s Dolls of Amarillo.
