TEX HANNA - INDUCTEE #63

During the three years that Tex Hanna played for the University of Florida Gators, his nose was broken so many times that he had what his family referred to as "unique Tex Hanna nose."

Esther Bryan “Tex” Hanna, born near Throckmorton, graduated from Borger High School in 1934. Hanna played football at Amarillo College, Altus Junior College, and the University of Florida.

He graduated from Eastern New Mexico University, where he also worked as an assistant coach, and received his master of education degree from West Texas State College.

After serving in the Army, Hanna took on coaching positions in football, golf, and basketball at Borger, where he was a coach and administrator for 38 years.

During his stint as head basketball coach, his teams had 414 wins and 111 losses. The Bulldogs won the district title six times under Hanna’s leadership and advanced to state three times. Hanna was Basketball Coach of the Year in 1960 and Texas School Administrator of the Year in 1977.

Hanna served on the board of directors of Cal Farley’s Boys’ Ranch and Girlstown and was athletic director of the American Legion Texas Boys’ State for 45 years.

Hanna died in 2004.
