Kids, Inc. Leadership: Ralph Dykeman - May 13, 2021

Hello and happy Thursday! We are happy you are back for another edition of Catching Up With Kids, Incorporated! Kids, Inc. has been a staple in the Amarillo community for over 75 years and over those years, we have built a vast collection of fun memories and we are excited to share more of those with you!

Starting this week, we want to give you a closer look at the Kids, Inc. leadership over the years and some of the fun and interesting events that took place during our early years. We have previously discussed the founding of Kids, Inc. and that post can be found by CLICKING HERE. Eventually, Bus Dugger passed on his leadership role to Ralph Dykeman. Dykeman had begun working for Kids, Incorporated as a part-time coordinator. He was extremely hands-on in his role with Kids, Incorporated, even helping to hand sew uniforms for kiddos during the 1950’s.

During his time leading Kids, Incorporated, Dykeman faced many challenges. For one, around twenty-five playing fields were slowly lost due to new construction within a two-year span. Also, during a time when most communication took place through newspapers, it was much more difficult to find coaches, register players, and provide important information to families. It is much easier today with the use of email and social media! Also during this time, Kids, Incorporated became an official 501(c)(3) non-profit entity, which allows for federal tax exemption. Dykeman eventually stepped down from the day-to-day operations of Kids, Incorporated in 1959. However, he continued to keep up with the doings of the organization and the progress being made. Come back next week to continue following along with our Kids, Inc. leadership series!
